A few pit bull facts-

Pit bull is actually a generic term for several dog breeds: the American Pit Bull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, the Bull Terrier, and often the American Bull Dog.

Sgt. Stubby, an American Pit Bull Terrier or (APBT) was America’s most decorated dog during WWl. Seen as brave defenders of freedom - pit bulls were considered America’s mascot and were often displayed on illustrations during both world wars.

One of the most famous “bullies” of all time was the bull terrier owned by General Patton. Willie, short for "William the Conqueror,” was acquired by Patton on March 4, 1944. Willie was a devoted companion and followed General Patton everywhere.

Thomas Edison, Teddy Roosevelt and Helen Keller were proud guardians for these dogs. Petey from the Little Rascals and Our Gang comedies was a pit bull. In contemporary times Rachel Ray often boasts about her pittie, Isaboo.

In 2006 at the American Temperament Test, "pit bull" dogs achieved a combined passing score of 84.4%.

American Staffordshire Terrier: 521 tested 83.9% passed
Staffordshire Bull Terrier: 61 tested 85.2% passed
Total: 1124 tested 84.4% passed
